Gallery IMA announces the solo exhibition of painter and multimedia artist Cerj Lalonde. The artist’s work has shown extensively worldwide and has been collected considerably in both private and public spheres.
FRACTAL UTOPIAWhile showing mainly a series of recent paintings, Cerj Lalonde will present for the first time, in guise of a proposal, his ambitious multimedia project FRACTUAL UTOPIA/ A Dream of Global Understanding. In a series of nine consecutive installations, some executed in this space some not; the project explores different aspects of global perspectives concerning the state of life as a human being. A room of the gallery will provide a description of the project and will exhibit its main diagram: REPRESENTATIO UNIVERSALIS. The artist has conceived this chart to illustrate the coherence of a diversified and eclectic body of work centering around three major fixations: Politics, Identity, and Science. The subdivision of each section into many categories allows for the integration of each work the artist has and will produce.
THE YELLOW SANCTUARY ROOMThis installation, THE YELLOW SANCYUARY ROOM, is fully integrated into the project as the eighth piece in the consecutive series. By viewing this piece in isolation one can experience the peaceful, calm, and meditative atmosphere created by the space. The concept, as explained by the artist, is to stimulate reflection and emotion when confronted by the immeasurable and incomprehensible reality of the infinity of space and the eternity of time.
PAINTINGS The exhibition will feature a recent series of paintings from the artist. As the Italian critic Antonina Zaru has written: “Although a diligent experimenter that also applies a complex assortment of mediums (photography, video, installation, performance, digital work), Cerj Lalonde remains above all an extraordinary painter”. Lalonde has developed a highly personal visual language using elements as disparate as the Russian avant-garde, to minimalism, to post-modern abstraction. His work presents a deep psychological tone that is at once ordered and spontaneous, cool and emotional.
